Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how J&B Creations LLC (“J&B Creations,” “we,” “us”) handles information in connection with the Unread: Phone Detective mobile game and the website at playunread.app (together, the “Service”). Unread is a single-player game that doesn't require an account, and every case in it is fictional.

The short version

• You don't create an account or give us your name to play.
• Everything we collect is anonymous, tied only to a random ID your device generates.
• Your score for a case is shown on a public leaderboard under a handle the app assigns you (like "DETECTIVE 4A7F"). You can't choose or change it.
• Purchases are handled by the App Store and Google Play. We never see your card details.
• We don't sell your personal information.

Information we handle

Unread has no account and no login. Everything below is anonymous and tied only to a random identifier your device creates, never to your name, email, or a real-world identity.

A random identifier

When you first open Unread, the app generates a random identifier (a “support ID”) on your device. It is a random value, not derived from any hardware or advertising identifier, and it is not linked to your name or any account. It lets us count activity, run the leaderboard, and help you if you ever contact support. The support ID is sent with requests to our servers to run these features.

Game progress (on your device)

Your case progress (gates solved, evidence you've tagged, verdicts, and timers) is stored on your device and is not tied to your identity.

Gameplay and product analytics

We collect anonymous, first-party analytics to understand how the game is used and to run its features. This includes app events (for example: app opened, case opened, case solved, accusation committed, paywall viewed, and rating prompt shown) and, for each case you play, gameplay details: the case, how many of the six accusation axes you got right, attempts used, time elapsed, wrong attempts per gate, evidence found out of the total, red herrings avoided, hints used, and the app version. This data is sent to our own servers (a Cloudflare Worker with a database, and our PostHog analytics) and keyed to the random identifier above. There is no third-party analytics or advertising SDK in the app.

Leaderboard

Unread has a per-case leaderboard. When you finish a case, your result for that case (your score, how many axes you got right, hints used, and time) is stored on our server and shown publicly to other players. It appears under a handle the app creates for you by hashing your random identifier, such as “DETECTIVE 4A7F”. You do not choose or type this handle, and you cannot change it. Nothing you write inside the game is ever shown to other players, and because the handle is a hash of a random value, it does not reveal anything about you.

Purchases and subscriptions

Unread Pro is sold as a subscription through the App Store and Google Play; those platforms process your payment, and we never receive your card details. We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions and confirm entitlements, which involves an app-generated identifier and your purchase and subscription status, used to unlock Pro and restore purchases.

Hosting and content delivery

Case files, images, the analytics above, and the leaderboard run on our infrastructure at Cloudflare (Workers, KV and R2 storage, and a D1 database). Serving these requests involves standard technical data such as IP address and request metadata, used to deliver content, store scores, and protect the Service from abuse.

Service providers we share with

• Apple App Store / Google Play: process your purchases.
• RevenueCat: manages subscription and entitlement status.
• Cloudflare: hosting, content delivery, and the gameplay and leaderboard database (Workers, KV, R2, D1), and abuse protection.
• PostHog: first-party product analytics, processed on our behalf and not to identify you.

We do not sell your personal information.

Children

Unread is rated Teen (13+) and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will address it.

Your choices

Because Unread has no account, the information above is tied only to a random identifier your device created, and your leaderboard handle is assigned by the app and cannot be chosen or changed. You may contact us with any privacy request, including access to or deletion of the data linked to your identifier, at hello@playunread.app, and we'll respond as required by applicable law.

International users

We are based in the United States and process information there and with the providers listed above. By using the Service, you understand your information may be processed in the United States and other countries.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the effective date above.
