Privacy Policy for Unread Friends
Effective October 14, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how J&B Creations LLC ("J&B Creations," "we," "us") handles information in connection with the Unread Friends app for iPhone, Apple TV and Android and the web player at playunread.app (together, the "Service"). Unread Friends is a party game played with friends. It doesn't require an account, and every case in it is fictional.
The short version
- You don't create an account to play. You type a name for each game so your friends know who is who.
- What we collect is tied to a random ID your device generates, not to your name.
- Game rooms, with the names, pins and votes in them, are deleted after six hours without activity.
- Purchases are handled by the App Store or Google Play. We never see your card details.
- We don't use your device's advertising identifier, and we don't sell your personal information.
Information we handle
A random identifier
When you first open Unread Friends, the app generates a random identifier on your device. It is not derived from any hardware or advertising identifier. It stays the same between sessions so your actions can be counted as one person's. Our purchase provider, RevenueCat, also assigns your install a random ID, which we use to unlock the cases you buy.
Game rooms
When you host or join a game, our server (a Cloudflare Worker) keeps the room: the name you typed, the clues pinned to the board, the strings between them, and the votes. Other players in the room see your name, your pins and, at the reveal, the group's votes. A room is deleted automatically after six hours without activity.
Product analytics
We collect first-party analytics to understand how the Service is used: for example which screens are seen, which links are tapped, how a game went (when it started and ended, how many players took part, how many clues were pinned and strings drawn, whether a hint was used, that a vote was cast, and whether the group solved the case), and whether a purchase was started and completed. Each event carries the app version, platform and language. We never include the name you typed, the words on a string, your vote or anything else you write.
Our game server reports some of these events itself, including for players on the web player, where a random ID stored in your browser takes the place of the app's identifier. The server does not pass on your IP address. Our analytics provider, PostHog, derives an approximate location (city level) from the IP address of events sent by the app. This data is keyed to the random identifier above.
Diagnostics
When something goes wrong, for example a request to our server fails or the store doesn't answer, the app records an error code, the screen it happened on and, for a failed request, which request it was and the response code. We use this to find and fix problems. It is keyed to the random identifier above.
Purchases
When you buy a case or a pack, the App Store or Google Play processes the payment. RevenueCat tells the app and our server which cases your store account owns, so the host's purchases unlock the cases for everyone in the room. Friends who join never need to buy anything.
What we don't do
We don't show ads, we don't use the advertising identifier, we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites, and we don't sell or share your personal information for advertising.
Service providers
Cloudflare (game rooms and the web player), PostHog (product analytics), RevenueCat (purchases), Apple (the App Store) and Google (Google Play). They process data on our behalf under their own privacy terms.
Children
Unread Friends is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your choices and contact
You can stop all collection by deleting the app. To ask about or delete the data linked to your random identifier, email support@playunread.app.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above.
